Eddie Kendricks was an American singer and songwriter who was one of the founding members of the Motown vocal group The Temptations. He was born in Union Springs, Alabama in 1939. He began his career as a member of The Cavaliers, who released their debut single, "Fannie Mae," in 1961.

Kendricks went on to join The Temptations in 1962 and became a major part of the group's sound, with his high tenor voice and lead vocal abilities. He sang lead on many of the group's biggest hits, including "My Girl," "Get Ready," and "Ain't Too Proud To Beg." He also co-wrote "Don't Look Back," "Runaway Child, Running Wild," and "I Wish It Would Rain."

Kendricks released his debut solo album, All By Myself, in 1971 and had some success with the singles "Girl You Need A Change Of Mind," "Keep On Truckin'," and "Shoeshine Boy." He released four more solo albums throughout the 1970s, and in 1980, he reunited with The Temptations for the Reunion album.

Kendricks's standout albums include his debut solo album, All By Myself, and the Temptations albums Cloud Nine and Puzzle People. His standout songs include "My Girl," "Get Ready," "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," "Girl You Need A Change Of Mind," and "Keep On Truckin'."

An interesting fact about Eddie Kendricks is that he was the first Temptations member to leave the group, when he departed in 1971 to pursue a solo career.
