About this album

Da・Di・Da is one of Yumi Matsutoya’s most polished and stylish albums, balancing city pop sheen with synth-pop detail, boogie rhythm and melodic rock. Released in 1985, it sits in the heart of her 1980s run, when she refined her songwriting into compact, sophisticated pop with a modern electronic edge. The album moves between cool urban imagery and intimate emotional writing, a hallmark of Matsutoya’s appeal as one of Japan’s defining singer-songwriters. Its mix of smooth grooves and sharply drawn tunes helped cement her reputation well beyond the kayōkyoku tradition.
