Fragile is the album that made Yes a major force in progressive rock, balancing bold collective playing with a sharper sense of structure. Released in 1971, it introduced new keyboardist Rick Wakeman and featured the breakthrough single Roundabout, alongside favourites such as Long Distance Runaround and Heart of the Sunrise. The record is notable for its blend of symphonic ambition, intricate musicianship and memorable hooks, with each band member also given a brief solo showcase. Widely regarded as one of Yes’s defining albums, Fragile helped set the template for early-1970s prog at its most technically dazzling and commercially visible.
