There's The Rub finds Wishbone Ash sharpening the twin-guitar interplay that made them stand out in the mid-1970s British rock scene. Released in 1974, the album bridges hard rock muscle, prog structure and folk-tinged melody with more polish and concision than much of their earlier work. Produced by the band with feedback from the Los Angeles session scene, it marked a move towards a smoother, more accessible sound while retaining the harmonised leads and changing signatures that defined their identity. With highlights such as Silver Shoes and Lady Jay, the record helped confirm Wishbone Ash as one of the most distinctive guitar bands of the era.
