About this album
Pink Flag is a landmark debut that stripped punk down to wiry precision and set the blueprint for post-punk. Released in 1977, Wire’s first album turned short, sharp songs into something colder, stranger and more deliberate than much of the era’s three-chord urgency. The record’s clipped guitars, taut rhythms and detached delivery gave numbers such as “Reuters”, “Three Girl Rhumba” and the title track lasting influence well beyond punk’s first wave. Widely regarded as one of the essential British albums of the late 1970s, it helped show how minimalism, abstraction and melody could coexist in a fiercely compact form.
