Wings Over America is a landmark live album that confirmed Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles band as a major concert act. Drawn from Wings’ 1976 US tour and released later that year, the set presents McCartney, Linda McCartney, Denny Laine and Joe English with a big, polished arena sound, balancing Wings material with reinventions of Beatles and rock’n’roll favourites. Its selection of songs such as Let Me Roll It, Maybe I’m Amazed, Live and Let Die and Blackbird shows how McCartney could turn studio favourites into expansive live statements. The album became a major commercial success and remains one of the defining documents of his 1970s output.
