About this album

Holding Back The River finds Wet Wet Wet refining the soulful pop rock that made them one of Britain’s most successful late-1980s bands. Issued in 1989, the album balances polished melodies with warm harmonies and a more mature, assured feel than their earliest material. The band’s gift for accessible songwriting is clear throughout, with a glossy production style that suits their blend of soft rock and pop rock. Coming before their chart-topping breakthrough, it helped establish the sound and appeal that would carry them into the mainstream and make them a fixture of the era’s radio-friendly British pop landscape.
