About this album

The Best Of Wes Montgomery is a concise introduction to one of jazz guitar’s defining voices. Issued in 1967, this compilation highlights Montgomery’s lyrical touch, octave technique and effortless swing across hard bop and Latin-inflected material. His playing made sophistication sound relaxed, whether on tougher groove pieces or the more melodic, radio-friendly sides that helped broaden his audience in the 1960s. Montgomery’s posthumous reputation rests on how completely he fused invention, warmth and accessibility, and this collection captures that balance in compact form. For listeners seeking a first stop into his catalogue, it remains an excellent overview of his most enduring qualities.
