Released in 1977, the album features the crossover hit Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love), one of Jennings’ biggest and most enduring songs, alongside a mix of country standards, rock touches and wry originals. It reflects the mid-1970s peak of Jennings’ creative control, when he helped define the outlaw movement by pushing country away from Nashville polish and towards a rougher, more personal style. The result is one of his most recognisable and influential albums.
