    Seven Days in Sammystown shows Wall of Voodoo refining their bleak humour and post-punk tension into a sharper new wave statement. Released in 1985, it followed the breakthrough of Call of the West and found the Los Angeles band pushing further into angular synths, prowling basslines and desert-soaked imagery. The album keeps the group’s off-kilter sense of drama intact while tightening the songs around Stan Ridgway’s deadpan storytelling and the band’s tense, mechanical pulse. Tracks such as Far Side of Crazy and Big City underline their gift for turning American West iconography into uneasy, noir-tinged pop.
