    About this album

    5150 marked a major turning point for Van Halen, introducing Sammy Hagar and proving the band could reinvent itself without losing momentum. Released in 1986, the album became their first US No. 1 and delivered some of their biggest hit singles, including “Why Can’t This Be Love” and “Dreams”. Produced by Mick Jones and engineered with a brighter, more synthesised gloss than earlier Van Halen records, it leaned into hooks and melody while keeping Eddie Van Halen’s guitar work front and centre. Widely regarded as one of the definitive hard rock albums of the 1980s, 5150 helped define the band’s second act.
