Uyama Hiroto's A Son Of The Sun arrived in 2008 as the debut album from one of the key musicians around Nujabes and Hydeout Productions, and it still carries that scene's reflective, jazz-shaped approach to hip-hop beautifully. Before releasing it, Uyama Hiroto had already contributed "Letter From Yokosuka" to Nujabes' Metaphorical Music in 2003 and appeared on the title track of Modal Soul in 2005, so this record lands with the feel of an artist stepping fully into his own space rather than making a tentative first move.
The album's strength is in how naturally it unfolds: instrumentals and guest spots sit together as part of one long, warm arc. Tracks such as "81summer," "Ribbon in the Sea," and "Stratus" give a good sense of its range, moving between soft-focus beat music, jazz harmony, and quietly cinematic atmosphere without ever sounding overstated. Guests Golden Boy and Pase Rock appear on "Vision Eyes" and "Fly Love Song," but the centre of gravity stays with Uyama Hiroto's melodic writing and patient pacing.
This vinyl edition also matters because A Son Of The Sun remained a touchstone for listeners long after its original release, leading to its later 2xLP return through Hydeout Productions. For anyone drawn to the world around Nujabes, it is more than a sidebar: it shows how that circle's mix of hip-hop, jazz, and luminous mood could become something deeply personal in Uyama Hiroto's hands.
