Tubeway Army is an LP by Tubeway Army from 1979 released on the Atlantic label.
About this album
Tubeway Army introduced the stark, mechanical sound that would soon define Gary Numan’s breakthrough. Released in 1978, the band’s self-titled debut sits between punk’s raw urgency and the colder precision of New Wave and electronic rock. Its clipped guitars, alienated lyrics and propulsive rhythms pointed towards the synthesiser-led future Numan would later make famous, while songs such as Listen to the Sirens and Are You Real? showed an emerging talent for detached, urban drama. The album has since come to be seen as an important early step in British electronic pop’s evolution, capturing a transitional moment just before Numan became a star.
