Tracy Chapman is an LP by Tracy Chapman from 1988 released on the Elektra label.

About this album

Tracy Chapman is a striking debut that introduced a major songwriting voice in austere, forceful style. Released in 1988, the album pairs Chapman’s intimate acoustic arrangements with socially aware lyrics, turning songs such as Talkin’ Bout a Revolution, Fast Car and Behind the Wall into lasting statements on poverty, hope and inequality. Its folk-rock simplicity only sharpens the emotional impact, while Chapman’s warm, controlled vocals give the record uncommon directness. A multi-platinum breakthrough that won Grammy recognition and spent significant time on the charts, Tracy Chapman became one of the most acclaimed and influential singer-songwriter albums of its era.
