Tomita’s The Firebird is a landmark of electronic classical music, transforming orchestral repertoire into vivid synthesiser-based soundscapes. Issued in 1975, the album shows the Japanese pioneer at the height of his imagination, using the Moog and studio technology to redraw familiar pieces with striking colour, movement and drama. Rather than treating the source material as museum repertoire, Tomita turns it into something futuristic and cinematic, helping broaden the audience for both electronic music and modern classical crossover. Its blend of technical ambition and dramatic flair made it one of his most recognised recordings.
