Something/Anything? is Todd Rundgren’s most celebrated album and a landmark of early-1970s pop craftsmanship. Released in 1972, the double LP moved fluidly between power pop, soft rock, bluesy balladry and more adventurous studio experiments, while still sounding immediate and melodic. Rundgren wrote and largely played the record himself, turning it into a showcase for his range as singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. The album brought him wider recognition through songs such as I Saw the Light and It Wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference, and helped establish the template for the ambitious solo auteur record that could be both technically inventive and emotionally direct.
