Todd Malcolm – Sweet Boy (Clear Mint Vinyl)

Malcolm Todd's Sweet Boy arrives as the LA-based songwriter and producer's debut mixtape, a 16-track set that gathers earlier EP material and adds six more songs for a fuller picture of his offbeat R&B-pop world. By the time this compilation landed on Columbia in 2024, Todd had already built serious momentum: AllMusic notes that "Earrings," "Roommates" and "Sweet Boy" all reached Billboard's Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.

What makes Sweet Boy stick is the way Todd balances self-mocking charm with real melodic instinct. The music pulls bedroom pop, indie soul and alternative R&B into something loose, playful and slightly warped, with groovy production and layered vocals that suit songs that can feel both awkward and cocky at once. If you know the viral singles, this LP shows how they fit into a broader style rather than just a run of isolated tracks.

The mixtape was produced by Todd with Charlie Ziman, and "New Friends" adds a guest appearance from Eem Triplin. For vinyl, this edition is especially welcome because it gives a proper physical home to a release that helped turn Todd from an online cult favorite into a Columbia signing.
