Lincoln is the witty, inventive album that turned They Might Be Giants from an offbeat curiosity into a defining alternative rock cult act. Released in 1988, it sharpened the duo’s mix of literate wordplay, surreal humour and catchy, keyboard-led hooks, while also showing a broader melodic range than their debut. Songs such as Ana Ng, Where Your Eyes Don't Go and They’ll Need a Crane became signature examples of their eccentric but carefully crafted songwriting. The album’s blend of accessible choruses and left-field ideas helped establish the band as one of the most distinctive voices in late-1980s indie and college rock.
