Odessey and Oracle is The Zombies’ finest and most enduring album, a baroque pop and psychedelic rock classic that has grown far beyond its initial commercial fate. Recorded at Abbey Road in 1967 and released in 1968, the band’s final studio album paired lush harmonies, Mellotron textures and elegant songwriting with a more reflective, often melancholy tone. Songs like Care of Cell 44, This Will Be Our Year and Time of the Season helped it become a touchstone for late-1960s pop, and its reputation has only increased over time as one of the era’s great cult albums and a major influence on later indie and chamber-pop artists.
