About this album
Tommy is The Who’s landmark rock opera, and one of the defining concept albums of the 1960s. Released in 1969, it pushed rock towards large-scale storytelling, following the life of the deaf, dumb and blind boy Tommy through a sequence of linked songs and recurring themes. Pete Townshend’s writing gave the band a new level of ambition, while the performances of Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Keith Moon and Townshend turned the idea into a fierce, dramatic statement. With landmark tracks such as Pinball Wizard, the album helped establish The Who as one of rock’s most adventurous and influential groups.
