The White Stripes is a raw, striking debut that set the template for the duo’s stripped-down garage-blues attack. Released in 1999, it introduced Jack and Meg White’s severe two-piece approach: wiry guitar, pummelling drums and a deliberately unvarnished sound that made old blues forms feel immediate again. With songs such as Jimmy the Exploder and Stop Breaking Down, the album nods to traditional material while pushing hard into the band’s own minimalist identity. It helped establish The White Stripes as one of the most distinctive rock acts of the early 2000s and laid the groundwork for their later breakthrough.
