    About this album

The Quintet is a superb post-bop summit from the V.S.O.P. Quintet, bringing together Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. Recorded live at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1977, the set captures five musicians who had already shaped modern jazz in Miles Davis’s groups and beyond, then reconnected to test that language in real time. The performances balance fire, invention and deep ensemble trust, with extended pieces such as 'One Of A Kind' and 'Little Waltz' showing how hard bop vocabulary had evolved into something more agile and searching. It is widely regarded as a landmark reunion album of the era.
