  • Calling In The Lions is an LP by The Venetians from 1986 released on the Festival Records, Parole Records label.

    About this album

Calling In The Lions is a polished and tuneful snapshot of mid-1980s Australian synth-pop, with The Venetians pairing bright hooks to clean electronic textures and compact pop-rock writing. Released in 1986, the album reflects a period when keyboard-led production and radio-friendly melody were reshaping mainstream rock, and it stands as the band’s best-known full-length statement. Songs such as So Much For Love and If Somebody Loves You show their knack for direct, emotive choruses, while the record’s glossy finish gives the material a distinctly period-correct energy. For listeners drawn to melodic Australian pop with a sleek new-wave edge, it remains a strong example of the form.
