The Teardrop Explodes – Wilder (VG/VG) – LP, UK 1981

Wilder is an LP by The Teardrop Explodes from 1981 released on the Mercury, Zoo Records label.

About this album

Wilder is a vivid and inventive new wave statement from The Teardrop Explodes, combining sharp pop instinct with Julian Cope’s surreal, febrile imagination. Issued in 1981, the album followed the band’s breakthrough and broadened their sound with brighter melodies, layered keyboards and an art-rock restlessness that set them apart from many early-’80s peers. Songs such as Pure Joy and Passionate Friend helped define its appeal, balancing immediacy with eccentric detail. The record strengthened the band’s reputation as one of the most distinctive acts to emerge from the post-punk era, where ambition and accessibility rarely sat so naturally together.
