About this album
Is This It is the breakthrough debut that helped make garage rock feel urgent again in the early 2000s. The Strokes arrived with clipped guitars, dry vocals and an effortless sense of style that set them apart from their contemporaries, while songs like Last Nite, Someday and Hard To Explain turned minimalist hooks into anthems. Recorded with producer Gordon Raphael, the album fused New York cool with tight, scrappy songwriting and became one of the key rock records of its era. Its influence quickly spread far beyond indie circles, shaping the sound and look of a generation of bands.
