About this album
No More Heroes is The Stranglers at their most provocative and incisive, sharpening punk energy with the keyboard-driven bite that set them apart from many of their peers. Issued in 1977, the album followed quickly on from their breakthrough and helped establish the band as one of the most distinctive voices in British rock’s first wave of new wave. Built around Hugh Cornwell’s mordant lyrics, Jean-Jacques Burnel’s muscular bass and Dave Greenfield’s organ lines, it turns social frustration and black humour into something immediate and memorable. The title track became one of their signature songs, while the album’s clipped, confrontational style remains central to the band’s reputation.
