Leader Of The Pack is The Shangri-Las at their most dramatic and distinctive, turning teenage heartbreak, bravado and danger into pop with real edge. Issued in 1965, the album gathers the group’s best-known material, including the title hit, Give Him A Great Big Kiss and Remember (Walking In The Sand), all carried by tense harmonies, spoken passages and a raw emotional directness that set them apart from many girl-group peers. The record helped define the darker, more cinematic side of 1960s pop and remains one of the clearest statements of the era’s teen melodrama.
