Undercover shows The Rolling Stones adapting to the 1980s with a tougher, more restless sound that still keeps their swagger intact. Released in 1983, the album folded funk, rock and dub-influenced textures into a sharper pop-rock frame, led by the urgent single Undercover of the Night and the biting She Was Hot. Recorded during a period of internal tension, it was produced by the band with Chris Kimsey, who helped shape its glossy, punchy finish. Often viewed as one of the group’s more uneven but ambitious early-’80s records, Undercover captures the Stones testing how far they could push their sound without losing their identity.
