  • "Firestarter" by The Prodigy, released in 1996, marked a turning point in the pop-cultural perception of electronic music. The song broke down the boundaries between rave, punk and rock and brought the previously rather subcultural big beat scene right into the mainstream.

Keith Flint's appearance was particularly influential: his aggressive vocals, anarchic styling and provocative physicality stood in stark contrast to the usual pop productions of the 90s. "Firestarter" thus became a projection screen for youthful anger, non-conformism and a general distrust of authority. The track was not only played in clubs, but also at rock festivals, in the charts and on music television - a cultural crossover moment. To this day, "Firestarter" is regarded as a symbol of musical boundary-crossing and how electronic music could be given a rebellious, socially charged voice.

To mark its 30th anniversary, an anniversary edition is now being released on 12" vinyl via XL Recordings, including remixes and the instrumental of this legendary song.
