    The Poll Winners is a sparkling hard bop summit from guitarist Barney Kessel, drummer Shelly Manne and bassist Ray Brown. Recorded in the 1950s, the album pairs elite West Coast polish with a warm, swinging group feel, giving standards and originals alike a crisp, conversational edge. Kessel's fluid guitar lines, Brown's firm bass and Manne's supple drumming made the trio name more than a marketing hook: this was a genuine all-star meeting of equals. Its easy blend of technical command and accessible swing helped establish the album as a valued example of small-group jazz at its most polished and musical.
