Zenyatta Mondatta is an LP by The Police from 1980 released on the A&M Records label.
About this album
Zenyatta Mondatta finds The Police sharpening their blend of new wave, reggae and rock into some of their most immediate songs. Released in 1980, the album followed their rapid rise and confirmed the trio as one of the era’s biggest crossover acts, with singles such as Don’t Stand So Close to Me and De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da driving heavy airplay and major chart success. Recorded under intense time pressure while the band were touring almost constantly, it still sounds lean and disciplined, with Sting’s melodies, Andy Summers’ guitar textures and Stewart Copeland’s restless drumming locked into a tightly controlled sound that helped define early-1980s pop-rock.
