About this album
Live Peace in Toronto 1969 is a vivid snapshot of John Lennon’s early post-Beatles reinvention, recorded at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival in 1969 with the Plastic Ono Band. The set is striking for its looseness and risk: Chuck Berry and Little Richard material sits beside the debut of 'Cold Turkey' and the first public airing of 'Give Peace a Chance'. With Klaus Voormann, Alan White and Eric Clapton in the band, Lennon pushed beyond polished pop into a rough, urgent blend of rock ’n’ roll revival, anti-war statement and onstage spontaneity. It remains one of the key live documents of his solo-era beginnings.
