The Muppet Show is an LP by The Muppets from 1977 released on the Astor label.
About this album
The Muppet Show captures the Muppets’ witty mix of comedy, parody and polished musical performance. Issued in 1977, it draws on the television series’ variety format, where characters moved easily from vaudeville humour to rock ’n’ roll, doo-wop and novelty arrangements. The album includes some of the troupe’s best-known routines, from the absurd “Mahna Mahna” to the theme song and comic set-pieces built around the show’s cast. As an extension of Jim Henson’s expanding Muppet universe, it helped turn the characters into a cross-generational cultural phenomenon and showed how television comedy could succeed as a record album too.
