The Modern Lovers – The Modern Lovers (E/VG+) – LP, AU 1977

The Modern Lovers is an LP by The Modern Lovers from 1977 released on the Beserkley label.

About this album

The Modern Lovers is a landmark proto-punk album whose raw energy and dry wit helped shape punk, indie rock and alternative rock. Recorded in the early 1970s and released in 1976, it captured Jonathan Richman’s singular writing at the moment when garage-rock simplicity met art-school intelligence. With its nervy momentum, deadpan humour and melodic immediacy, the album made songs like Roadrunner and Pablo Picasso feel both eccentric and inevitable. Widely regarded as a key influence on generations of underground bands, it remains one of the most important debuts in rock history.
