    Collaboration is a graceful chamber-jazz meeting between Laurindo Almeida and the Modern Jazz Quartet, balancing Brazilian guitar, cool contrapuntal interplay and measured swing. Recorded in 1964, the album brings together Almeida’s supple bossa nova-inflected phrasing with the MJQ’s elegant, classically minded approach, giving the set a distinctive blend of lyricism and discipline. The programme moves from originals and standards to reimagined concert repertory, including a striking version of Rodrigo’s Concierto De Aranjuez and a celebrated reading of One Note Samba. The result is one of the more distinctive cross-cultural jazz collaborations of the 1960s, prized for its poise, precision and musical imagination.
