About this album
Someday My Prince Will Come is one of Miles Davis’s most graceful and enduring early-’60s albums, balancing hard bop drive with a more open modal sensibility. Recorded in 1961 and issued on Columbia, it features a classic sextet line-up with John Coltrane on the title track, plus Cannonball Adderley, Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb across the session. The album’s mix of standards and Davis originals gave his post-kind-of-Blue sound a warmer, more conversational edge, while tracks such as the title song and “Teo” helped define his transitional period before the second great quintet. It remains a key Miles Davis recording.
