About this album

20 Golden Greats is a strong, career-spanning Kinks compilation that brings together the songs that made them one of British rock’s most distinctive singles bands. By 1978, tracks such as You Really Got Me, Waterloo Sunset, Sunny Afternoon and All Day and All Of The Night had already confirmed Ray Davies’ gift for hooks, character studies and sly social observation. The collection captures the group’s shift from raw mod-era punch to more reflective pop-rock, showing how their wit and melodic precision helped define the sound of late 1960s British music. It remains an effective introduction to the band’s first great run of hits.
