    Orange is a feral breakthrough from The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, a record that pushed blues rock and garage rock into something louder, stranger and more electrifying. Released in 1994, it sharpened the trio’s raw riffing, punk velocity and swaggering vocal attack into a distinctive sound that helped define their reputation in the alternative rock underground. Songs such as Bellbottoms became calling cards for the band’s manic energy and explosive dynamics, while the album’s mix of humour, abrasion and momentum gave it lasting cult status. Often cited as one of their key statements, Orange remains a high point of 1990s garage rock.
