About this album
3 + 3 is the album that turned The Isley Brothers into a fully self-contained funk-rock force. Issued in 1973, it marked the group’s first LP with their younger brothers Ernie and Marvin Isley and brother-in-law Chris Jasper, expanding the family trio into a six-piece band with a tighter, more muscular sound. Built around the hit “That Lady”, the album blends supple soul harmonies with wah-wah guitar, sharp rhythm work and a harder funk edge, while also reworking songs such as “Summer Breeze” and “Listen to the Music” into the Isleys’ own style. It became one of their most important and influential releases.
