50 years ago, Nancy Spungeon reviewed the re-entry of the Heartbreakers for the New York Rocker. They had hired bassist Billy Rath to replace Richard Hell and wrote new songs. This was the origin of the L. A. M. F. story. Found in an attic - a copy master of the original Track Records tape from 1977, without "mud"! This classic punk album, recorded in London by the band with the New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan, was widely condemned in the music press for its "muddy mix" - later revealed to be a mastering error. When Track went bust the following year, manager Leee Black Childers broke into the third floor office of Track Records on Carnaby Street and stole the tapes that belonged to him and the band. He found everything - except the master tape, which remained undiscovered until last year. Other releases consisted of outtakes or remixes. The album was first released for RSD in 2021, with not enough copies available, and was unavailable for three years. It is now being reissued to meet the demand for this recently discovered, highly acclaimed recording.
