The Gun Club was founded in 1980 by Jeffrey Lee Pierce and Kid Congo Powers in Los Angeles. The band was one of the first to combine punk with blues, country and other American folk music. The Gun Club released seven albums until the death of their singer Jeffrey Lee Pierce in 1996. "Miami" was released in 1982 on the label of Blondie guitarist Chris Stein, as Jeffrey Lee Pierce was chairman of the Blondie fan club in L.A., so it is no wonder that Debbie Harry herself (as D. H. Lawrence Jr) can be heard in the background on some of the songs. The Gun Club are one of the most influential US bands, and The White Stripes, Henry Rollins, The Pixies, The Von Blondies and Mark Lanegan are big fans. The re-release of "Miami" comes with a download code on which the band can be heard at a concert in New York's Continental Club in 1982.
