Issued in 1973, just after the group’s original run had ended, the compilation captures the Doors at their most immediate and durable, from the swagger of “Hello, I Love You” and “Touch Me” to the darker pull of “People Are Strange” and “Riders on the Storm”. Blending blues rock, psychedelia and pop instincts, it shows why the Doors remained one of the most distinctive American bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
