Born in 1920, pianist Dave Brubeck is an American jazz legend. In the early 1950s he founded the Dave Brubeck Quartet in California, with which he soon became an insider tip on the jazz scene in the Sunshine State. In 1961 Brubeck succeeded in reaching the heights of the pop charts with the piece "Take Five", composed by his saxophonist. The song, played in 5/4 time, was the first jazz record to sell more than a million records. "Take Five" came from the album "Time Out", already released in 1959, with which Brubeck presented one of the definitive milestones of jazz.
