About this album
Bossa Nova U.S.A. is a stylish and accessible meeting of cool jazz and Brazilian rhythm from The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Issued in 1963, the album reflects Brubeck’s fascination with rhythmic variety and melody, with the quartet translating bossa nova’s sway into polished, modern jazz settings. The title track became one of the group’s best-known pieces, while songs such as “Vento Fresco” and “Coração Sensivel” underline the record’s international flavour. Built on the quartet’s tight interplay and Brubeck’s distinctive piano writing, it helped bring bossa nova into a wider American jazz context.
