About this album
Now That Everything’s Been Said is a richly arranged late-1960s soft-rock album that blends sunshine pop, soul and folk harmony with real ambition. Credited to The City, the trio of Carole King, Gerry Goffin and Danny Kortchmar, it captures King’s move from behind-the-scenes songwriter to front-line artist just as the singer-songwriter era was beginning to take shape. The album’s best-known songs, including I Wasn’t Born To Follow and That Old Sweet Roll (Hi-De-Ho), show the group’s easy melodic touch and subtle rhythmic drive. Issued in 1969, it has become a notable early statement in King’s recording career and a cult favourite among fans of classic pop craft.
