Fifth Dimension is the album where The Byrds decisively pushed folk rock towards psychedelia. Released in 1966, it broadened the band’s sound with denser arrangements, sharper experimentation and a more adventurous use of studio texture, while still preserving the jangle and harmony work that made them famous. “Eight Miles High” became a landmark of early psychedelic rock, and the record also reflects the group’s quicksilver shift from folk revival roots into something more exploratory and electrically charged. It stands as one of the key transitional albums of the 1960s, showing how The Byrds helped redraw the boundaries of mainstream rock.
