Issued in 1965, it combines brisk rock and roll, acoustic balladry and sharper harmonic writing, with Lennon and McCartney expanding their range on songs such as Help!, Ticket to Ride, Yesterday and You've Got to Hide Your Love Away. The album also reflects the band’s growing studio ambition, while the title track came from the group’s second feature film and became one of their defining hits. Widely regarded as a key mid-period Beatles release, it helped broaden the possibilities of mainstream pop.
