Wild Planet sharpened The B-52's eccentric new wave into a tighter, more melodic second album. Released in 1980, it built on the band’s playful blend of angular guitars, surf riffs, retro rhythm and deadpan call-and-response vocals, making their offbeat universe feel more fully formed. The album includes one of their signature songs, 'Private Idaho', alongside 'Party Out Of Bounds' and 'Strobe Light', and helped confirm the group as more than a cult novelty by turning their oddball humour into durable pop art. It remains a key early statement from one of America’s most original post-punk-era bands.
