About this album
Mesopotamia is The B-52's sharpest early statement, turning their campy party-rock energy into a tighter, more stylised new wave and synth-pop set. Released in 1982, the mini-album was produced by David Byrne, whose involvement helped push the band toward a colder, more angular sound without losing their playful surrealism. Songs such as the title track and Loveland balance quirky humour, dance-floor momentum and oddball romanticism, showing how the group could be both eccentric and musically precise. Often treated as an important bridge between their debut-era appeal and later pop success, it remains one of their most distinctive releases.
