About this album
Declaration is the breakthrough debut that made The Alarm one of the most distinctive British rock bands of the 1980s. Released in 1984, it channels post-punk urgency into big, rallying songs that helped define the band’s early identity and wider appeal. Powered by Mike Peters’ passionate vocals, chiming guitars and a strong sense of purpose, the album balances grit with melody and conviction. Songs such as Sixty Eight Guns and Where Were You Hiding When the Storm Broke? became emblematic of the band’s anthemic style, helping Declaration build a lasting reputation as a fervent and memorable alternative rock record.
